Events

Round 1- 17 TH MARCH

Audentes Fortuna Iuvat
(Fortune Favours the Bold)
The preliminary round of EOTY follows an axiom of mainstream Economics, the more choices the better. The round is one where all participants have five options to choose a topic of their choice when taking part in the case study event. These topics range from Law to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with an emphasis on their application in the G20 countries, a participant can choose what they fancy. These case studies are framed in a manner to test their depth on economics and their choice, economics and their chosen field complimenting each other. A special twist in the topics to what one chooses, should one go safe or take the risk? The round is aptly named “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat”, a.k.a, “Fortune Favours The Bold.” The top fifty participants across the domains would then move on to the second round, a novel simulator to understand how a government plans.

Round 2- 21 ST-24 TH MARCH

Sic Parvis Magna
(Greatness from humble beginnings)
“The Biggest Risk of all is not Taking one"- Mellody Hobson
The top 50 players from the previous round shall then move on to the next. Each of these 50 participants would then be assigned one of five G20 nations at random. Each country would have a prompt attached, this prompt would speak about the country’s well-being, assets, how well it does by international standards etc.
The aim of the round is for each participant to individually assess the strengths and weaknesses of their assigned to ensure the growth of their country. A certain number of plays would be specified beforehand for the number of transactions a participant can conduct. A report explaining the plays would have to be written by the participants.
The name of this round is “Sic Parvis Magna”, meaning Greatness from Humble Beginnings. An apt name for a great game!

Round 3- 31ST MARCH

Panel Discussion:
As we embark on the final stage of the competition, the last five participants will engage in a panel discussion where their researching skills and problem solving techniques will determine the winner of the round. A panel of experts will evaluate the participants on the following grounds; -Application of economic concepts to solve the crisis at hand -Effectiveness of their policies or solutions not just for the given crisis, but also for real life problems. The cumulative scores of the participants throughout all rounds will then be taken into consideration. The one with the highest score, will take home the crown of the “Economist of the Year 2023.”
